GRAMO

What is Gramo?

Gramo is an independent association established on 7 June 1989 by FONO, IFPI Norge, the Norwegian Musicians' Union, the National Federation of Norwegian Musical Soloists, the Norwegian Actors' Equity Association and the Actors' Association of 1978.

Gramo's primary objective is to claim collective remuneration for performing artists and producers when their recordings are used for broadcasting and other public performance purposes.

Who does Gramo represent?

Gramo represents performing artists and producers. Gramo’s primary objective is to collect remuneration on behalf of its own members as well as on behalf of other Norwegian and foreign rightsholders. Thus Gramo represents all rightsholders that take part in a recording that is protected by the Copyright Act or covered by the rights management agreements Gramo concludes in its own special fields.

Gramo's responsibilities

  • Collect and distribute remuneration to performing artists and producers when their recordings are broadcast or performed publicly in Norway, cf. § 45b of the Copyright Act;
  • Collect and distribute remuneration to performing artists and producers when their recordings are superimposed in television productions (does not apply to repertoire represented by the music publishers' association FONO);
  • Claim fees in the field of broadcasting on behalf of the Foundation for Performing Artists for repertoire not covered by Gramo's remuneration claims on behalf of artists and producers.
  • Assign, administer and inspect ISRC (International Standard Recording Code, corresponding to the ISBN number on books);
  • Register the release of all recordings on the Norwegian market.
