An Online Information Centre for Copyright and Clearance

Clara is a website featuring information about rights clearance for copyright-protected material in Norway.

The website is operated by the Clara Association, established by the following Norwegian rights management organisations: BONO, FONO, GRAMO, Kopinor, Norwaco and TONO.

These organisations manage rights to Norwegian works and, to a large extent, to foreign works for use in Norway, by virtue of authorisations from rightsholders and/or pursuant to legislation. Copyright law and rights management systems vary somewhat from one country to the next, and one is required to follow the rules that apply in the country in which the copyright protected material is used.

Rights management organisations similar to those in Norway have been set up in many countries. Through international umbrella organisations such as CISAC and IFRRO, rights management organisations working in the same fields have established close co-operation and signed reciprocal agreements to manage each other's rights. Accordingly, the use of protected material is generally cleared through a rights management organisation in the user's home country. Where no such organisations exist, rights must be cleared with the individual rightsholders or their representatives.
